Rainford-IT provide tablets for Skype calls for Care Home residents

We heard that Prees Parish Council had received an impassioned plea to help residents at Elmhurst Care Home communicate with relatives during Lockdown.  The carehome has been closed to visitors since March and residents were queueing to use the laptop to talk to relatives on Skype.

The Council agreed to buy two tablets for Elmhurst but, as the decision needed to be formally approved, it would be at least a month before they received them, so we stepped in and donated two tablets for immediate use on Skype.

When the new tablets finally arrived, we delivered them to Elmhurst Care Home where they were gratefully accepted by Abbie Williams and Valerie Finch.

Abbie said:  “Our residents have been so grateful for the use of the tablets as they have really missed visits from relatives – some residents often have visitors 3 or 4 times a day so being able to see people online whilst talking to them has made a really big difference.  We are really grateful to Rainford-IT and to the Parish Council for highlighting this problem and getting the tablets to us.”

Abbie described how residents had been queueing to use the laptop – on one occasion when a lady had a Skype call from relatives in Kenya she had to wait to talk to them as the laptop was already being used by someone else.

The tablets are also useful for the doctors at Prees Medical Practice who have been able to talk to patients directly online and also see via the webcam some of the symptoms of illnesses.
